The Role

The Social Media Creator will be in charge of making great content for Wealthsimple’s channels in order to build a super engaged community (and a robust following) who actually want the content we’re making, as well as making us look smart, human, fun and not annoying. They will also work with the existing creative teams to put out social versions of the content that supports our products and campaigns. They will also team up with the marketing and editorial teams (and other stakeholders) to help design a simple and super impactful social strategy that is long on making stuff that people love.
They will, first and foremost, be the creative lead and decision maker of a social team that consists of a producer and two community managers. They will also get creative support from the brand team and editorial team. So it’s important that they be a person with deep creative experience, and a genuine affinity and experience creating for social media. They should be a maker who is able to move quickly and be responsive to news, be part of the social conversation without ever seeming like a corporate tool. And maybe even be someone who can drive these conversations in a truly organic way that isn’t just generic prompts. Basically you have to like, and be good at, social media while still having a really good social media taste/creative filter.

What you'll be doing:

  • Write and design posts. Tweets, IG posts, videos, maybe even boring LinkedIn stuff that’s boring in just the right way. And have those posts be really good, human, smart, entertaining, educational and/or compelling
  • The right candidate will be on the lookout for moments and ideas that can be turned into social content that will inform and engage our clients.
  • Help pioneer the philosophy behind our channels and increase our following and engagement. Why should people follow us? What are they getting by doing so? What do people want from Wealthsimple in this setting? What’s the right mix of posts to give them all those things?
  • Partner with editorial and creative teams to execute social versions of existing campaigns, and develop social-first campaigns.
  • Drive innovation including expansion to new platforms.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across all functional teams to establish creative ways to use social media to help support their priorities and distribute their content/key messages to our communities.
  • Own Wealthsimple’s social playbook – keeping it up-to-date with channel best practices and relevant learnings from past content performance.
  • Build an audience of people who are engaged and actually are following us on purpose.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Loves to make things.
  • Is a self-starter and isn’t afraid to put work out into the world. Doesn’t always need to be given a task but instead is constantly executing and thinking of ways to keep apace of a world that never stops
  • Understands the mission of the company and can translate that into work that people care about.
  • Has a big imagination and strong creative chops: let’s insert ourselves into the news cycle and the conversation in an organic way.
  • Has great taste. The person in this role can’t design and write everything, but they need to know who to pick and choose and adapt the assets that other people make that go into the channels.
  • Stays up to date on the news and conversations happening on social channels as well as latest social media best practices, trends and technologies.
  • Has great organization and prioritization skills. We can’t do everything. Our team will be relatively small. But we should know where and how we can have the most impact.
  • Financial expertise is not a must — but you should be curious about and interested in joining the conversation about finance, money, and money culture both on social and off.
  • Is enthusiastic, positive and open to giving and receiving feedback. And is a team player who will embody our culture and values while helping make the wider team successful – and make work fun!
